B2Bassment is the second chapter of a story that started over a decade ago. The original Bassment occurred at King’s Cross (formerly The Slide) on the Lower East Side back in 2009. After a good eight months or so, the party outgrew the venue and it was moved to a much bigger basement, the downstairs disco at The Monster. There, it became a home base for underground house heads and queer nightlife until 2015 when Mandy and Jools decided to put things on ice and leave NYC for a bit.

Fast forward to now. They’ve returned to NYC, added a B and a 2, and shifted from weekly Thursdays to every first Friday of the month. Without missing a beat, B2Bassment picked up where it left off. The crowd is diverse, queer-centered, and united by one thing: a deep love of house music and dancing until the lights come up.

We’ve brought the sound back with the help so far from special guests such as Super DJ Dmitry (Deee-Lite), Nauti Siren (live), Rich King and Eugene Tambourine (North Sattelite). Frequently joining Jools and Mandy are absolute NYC legends DJ Gant Johnson and the fierce and fabulous host Ricky Jones. Spunk Go-bo boys are a new edition to The Monster with performance and presence almost every night of the week, including B2Bassment.

The crowd is what it has always been; the perfect mix of original Bassment-goers, lifelong Monster regulars, young lovers on the dance floor and everything in between. Without them we simply wouldn’t exist.

The original Bassment party started on the Lower East Side of NYC at a tiny spot called King's Cross. Known as The Slide back in the day, the space was celebrated as one of the first LGBTQ bars in New York City — and it was the perfect home for something new. Tucked down a steep flight of stairs and below sidewalk level, it created a natural sound barrier made for beat-heavy house. Combined with their love for all things bass, the name "Bassment" felt exactly right.

Word spread fast. DJs, artists, and primarily queer locals with like minds found their way down those stairs, and the room filled with the kind of people who show up because they genuinely love the music — not to be seen, but to feel something. That energy, brought by the crowd as much as anyone behind the decks, became the heartbeat of the party. Before long, the space couldn't hold what Bassment had become, and it was time to move.

Enter the Monster, where history would be made. Lineups including Michael Magnan, Carry Nation, W Jeremy, Christy Love, Sammy Jo, Johnny Dynell, Gant Johnson, Rich King, Joe Usher, Gant Johnson, Eugene Tambourine, THE Lady Miss Kier, and many more turned the space into something people still talk about. And holding it all together were hosts Edwin "Q-Raider," Ricky Jones, Mykki Blanco, Xander, One-Half Nelson, Celso and Jamil LaBeija, MotherJuan Aviance, Adam Hendricks, and more — the people who made every person walking through the door feel like they belonged there.

BASSMENT 1.0

Bassment is the brainchild of Jools Palmer and Mandy Graves, two DJs who came up in the NY and Northeast club and rave scenes of the 90s and early 2000s — a shared foundation that would go on to define everything about the party.
