It’s Time To Celebrate Our Favorite Virgo, Gant!
We're back with another one, this time to celebrate one of our own — the legendary Gant Johnson! And since it's his actual birthday, we've got to do this one up right.
Gant cut his teeth in Chicago before landing in NYC in 1991, where Linda Simpson gave him his first gig at Channel 69. From there he cut his path through the city's queer nightlife — SOB's, The Pyramid, filling in for Johnny Dynell at BoyBar, and running his own "Salon Wednesdays" residency at Flamingo East for six years straight. In the 2000s he co-founded the Sunday Tubway party with Kevin Aviance at Mr. Black, one of the era's essential queer underground spots, and he's kept the tradition alive ever since with residencies at C'mon Everybody and The Exley — "Butch Queens Express" on Thursdays, "Breezin'" on Sunday afternoons. He also recently appeared with Manny Ward at 718 Sessions - when we say he’s unstoppable, that’s an understatement!
Four decades in and Gant's still spinning house music all night long, still showing up for the community that raised him. NYC nightlife doesn't have many people left who've been through every era of it — Gant's one of the real ones, and B2Bassment wouldn't be what it is without DJs like him carrying that history forward.
Our dear Ricky Jones is hosting, which means it will be a genuine family affair. As always on the stage, we've got the beautiful Spunk boys keeping it lively.
By the way, in lieu of gifts for his birthday, Gant is asking for donations to his Braking AIDS Ride 2026 fundraiser ,which is supporting Housing Works.
